![]() In terms of sideboarding, the more common cards that they have for the Dredge matchup are graffdiggers cage, relic of progenitus, tormod’s crypt, pithing needle (naming Bazaar of Baghdad), Leyline of the Void and from time to time, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. Wasteland and Strip Mine kill your Bazaar, while Steel Hellkite and Wurmcoil Engine can race you by killing your zombie tokens and via lifelink respectively. Workshops - Workshop does have a few maindeck cards that are good against Dredge. I’ll go through the most common sideboard hate cards and maindeck cards in particular archetypes that match up well against Dredge. Sometimes you can use game two as a feeler for what sort of hate you are up against. This is where the advantage of being favored in most game ones is helpful. Knowing what all the possibilities are and being able to deduce what decks are more likely to play certain kinds of hate is a good tool to have.įor example if you are facing an Oath of Druids deck they are likely to not have Graffdigger’s Cage as their hate card of choice because it hurts them as well. Very few of them care about color, a lot of them are artifacts and some of them are free. Many of the hate cards that are used to combat dredge can be played in almost any deck. Sideboarding Strategies and Matchup Analysisĭredge doesn’t really have matchups against decks, but rather against individual sideboard cards. Today I'm going to delve a little deeper and talk about strategy with the deck. If you haven't gotten a chance to read that article, take a moment to do so now. However, if a card’s own ability allows you to cast it from your graveyard (such as a flashback ability) Yixlid Jailer stops that ability. In my last article I wrote about the essential cards that make up it's maindeck and sideboard. That spell’s additional and alternative costs may be applied. If a spell or ability allows you to cast a spell from your graveyard, the first step in doing so is to move it to the stack. ![]() For example, Tarmogoyf is a 0/1 creature card in your graveyard while you control Yixlid Jailer. If a card in a graveyard has an ability that defines a * in its power or toughness, that * is 0. If a card with changeling is in a graveyard, it still has all creature types. What matters is that these cards will have these abilities on the battlefield. Although these cards won’t have these abilities in the graveyard, they will be applied if the cards are put onto the battlefield from the graveyard (due to Zombify, perhaps). Some cards have abilities that apply “as enters the battlefield” or state that “ enters the battlefield with” counters. These effects mean the card is never actually put into the graveyard, so Yixlid Jailer doesn’t affect that ability. Some replacement effects cause a card to be put somewhere else instead of being put into a graveyard (such as that of Darksteel Colossus). ![]() This includes abilities that trigger when a card is put into a graveyard “from anywhere,” even if that card was on the battlefield. Yixlid Jailer stops those abilities from triggering at all. ![]() If an ability triggers when the object that has it is put into a graveyard from anywhere other than the battlefield, such as Krosan Tusker or Narcomoeba, that ability triggers from the graveyard. If an ability triggers when the object that has it is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, that ability triggers from the battlefield and isn’t affected by Yixlid Jailer. ![]()
